Painting for me is a way to communicate with people and God. My paintings and drawings use visual imagery as a catalyst for discussions about the nature of spiritual evolution as it applies to social behavior. My works are mixed media on paper, wood, and canvas. Some of my images are very literal and some are more conceptual. The first layer of my drawings and paintings are prepared in pencil. After I map out the composition, I then decide what colors I want to bring into play. Even if I could not sell my work I would still make art and yet, I intend to financially support my family from my artworks. It is important to me that local artists become and are seen as viable economic resources in their communities. I envision a world where artists are revered both for their gifts to culture and their contributions to the livelihoods of their communities.
My current series is called Perspicacity. Perspicacity is an on-going series of 30 portraits of everyday people reflecting complicated emotions such as revenge, suspicion and fear. They were created in response to my discovering that I had Bipolar 2 disorder. This series is done with the purpose of studying the urban landscape and the interplay of perceptual differences. If there is a sub series to these works, it is in the clustering or associations of specific environments with specific mental differences. These scenes are not studied for themselves, but rather as a vehicle for pictorial psychological investigation.
